Point-of-Care Test for Rapid Diagnosis of MRSA
Unmet Medical Need: Clinicians lack rapid diagnostics of Staph A and MRSA infections leading them to treat with broad-spectrum antibiotics and use observational monitoring therapy. This results in costly prolonged hospitalizations and wasted antibiotics, along with increased bacterial resistance and toxic regimens given to patients unnecessarily.
Envisioned Healthcare Product: The envisioned product is a hand-held, nucleic-acid based diagnostic one-step “sample to result” test, integrating sample processing and detection anywhere, by anyone, in under one hour, thus providing for rapid diagnoses of infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, including MRSA.
