uDBS: Noninvasive deep brain stimulation using focused ultrasound

Unmet Medical Need:  Central Nervous System diseases affect several million patients in the U.S. Current drug treatments are often associated with side-effects such as dyskinsia, confusion, dizziness, insomnia, depression, and pathological gambling, among others. The most common non-drug technique for neurostimulation is Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), effective but invasive.

Envisioned Healthcare Product: The uDBS team is developing a noninvasive alternative to DBS that allows stimulation of the brain at the point of care without requiring MRI. The team plans to make a standalone, cost-efficient unit with reliable accuracy to target the motor or sensory cortex outside the MRI or CT system.
